Solar Installer
Job Description:
Our Client is seeking a skilled and reliable Solar Installer to join the technical team. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating site locations, assembling structural components, and safely integrating solar photovoltaic (PV) systems into electrical grids. The ideal candidate will combine mechanical aptitude with strong electrical knowledge to deliver safe, high-quality, and energy-efficient solar solutions.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Site Assessment
- Evaluate installation sites for structural integrity and roof conditions.
- Assess shading and optimal sun exposure to maximize energy efficiency.
Mechanical Installation
- Assemble, install, and secure support structures and mounting brackets.
- Mount solar photovoltaic (PV) modules according to engineering drawings and local building codes.
Electrical Installation
- Connect photovoltaic (PV) panels to inverters, battery storage systems, and electrical grids.
- Ensure all exposed electrical equipment is properly weatherproofed and sealed against environmental conditions.
Testing and Commissioning
- Conduct diagnostic tests on electrical circuits and verify grounding systems.
- Commission solar PV systems by testing voltage, connectivity, and overall system performance.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve system faults through effective troubleshooting.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and repair or replace defective solar modules, wiring, and related components.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Certifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- N3 Electrical Certificate or equivalent electrical qualification.
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years' hands-on experience in solar PV installation or electrical work.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in reading technical drawings, single-line diagrams, and blueprints.
- Skilled in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
- Computer literate, with the ability to monitor and configure solar PV systems.
Physical Requirements
- Comfortable working at heights on rooftops, scaffolding, and ladders.
- Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
Licensing
- Valid driver's licence with a clean driving record.
