Job Summary:



The Boilermaker Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating boilermaking, structural steel fabrication, assembly and installation activities on project sites in Namibia. The role manages boilermakers, welders and assistants, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, quality standards and applicable Namibian requirements. The Boilermaker Foreman supports the achievement of project deadlines while maintaining high standards of safety, dimensional accuracy and workmanship.

Key Responsibilities:



• Team Supervision: Lead and supervise boilermakers, welders and assistants. Allocate tasks, provide technical guidance and ensure work is performed safely, efficiently and effectively.
• Project Coordination: Coordinate fabrication, structural steel erection and mechanical installation activities with other trades and project teams. Ensure work schedules, priorities and project milestones are met.
• Quality Control: Inspect fabrication, fit-up, welding, assembly and installation work to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, tolerances and quality requirements. Address defects, dimensional discrepancies or deficiencies promptly.
• Safety Management: Enforce company, client and site safety requirements. Conduct toolbox talks and ensure employees follow safe work practices, hot-work requirements, permits, lifting procedures and PPE requirements.
• Training and Development: Provide on-the-job training, mentoring and technical guidance to team members. Support the development of skills and knowledge within the team.
• Resource Management: Manage labour, materials, tools and equipment. Ensure resources are used efficiently and report shortages or constraints promptly.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work performed, including progress, time sheets, inspections and site issues. Submit reports and documentation as required.
• Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve technical or operational issues on site. Implement appropriate solutions and escalate matters outside the limits of authority.
• Compliance: Ensure boilermaking, welding, fabrication and structural installation work complies with applicable Namibian requirements, approved project standards, drawings, specifications, welding procedures and contractual requirements.
• Communication: Maintain effective communication with supervisors, engineers, project management and other stakeholders. Provide updates on progress, constraints and changes affecting the work.

Qualifications and Experience:



• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• Recognised Boilermaker trade qualification / apprenticeship or equivalent vocational training is required.
• Relevant welding, rigging, lifting, working-at-heights and project-specific certifications or authorisations are advantageous and must be maintained where applicable.
• 5-7 years of boilermaking, structural steel fabrication and installation experience, preferably in mining, industrial or construction projects, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or foreman role.

Technical Skills:



• Strong knowledge of boilermaking, structural steel fabrication, plate work, fit-up, assembly and erection practices. Ability to interpret fabrication drawings, general arrangement drawings, isometrics and technical specifications, and to use measuring, cutting, grinding and fabrication equipment correctly.

Leadership:



• Proven leadership skills with the ability to organise, manage and motivate a team while maintaining discipline, safety, productivity and quality.

Problem-Solving:



• Strong practical problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify constraints and resolve issues efficiently and effectively.

Communication:



• Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with employees, supervisors, engineers and other stakeholders.

Organizational Skills:



• Strong planning, organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple work fronts and priorities in a project environment.

Safety Awareness:



• Strong understanding of hot work, welding and cutting hazards, lifting and rigging activities, working at heights, confined spaces, permit-to-work systems and construction safety practices.

Physical Requirements:



• Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces and in outdoor project environments under varying weather and site conditions.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of site supervision, including walking work areas, climbing access structures and standing for extended periods.

Work Environment:



• Hours: Project/site working hours and roster arrangements will apply in accordance with operational requirements, the employment agreement and applicable Namibian labour requirements. Overtime may be required based on project demands.
