Job Summary:
The Storeman will be responsible for overseeing the storage, management, and distribution of construction materials and equipment. This role involves maintaining inventory accuracy, ensuring materials are properly stored, and coordinating with construction teams to provide timely access to needed resources.
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Management:
- Stock Control: Oversee the receipt, storage, and distribution of construction materials and equipment. Maintain accurate inventory records and track stock levels to prevent shortages or excess.
- Ordering and Replenishment: Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with procurement or supply chain teams to reorder materials and equipment as needed. Ensure timely replenishment to meet project demands.
Material Handling:
- Storage: Ensure that materials and equipment are stored properly to prevent damage and deterioration. Organize storage areas for easy access and efficient use of space.
- Distribution: Coordinate the delivery of materials and equipment to various construction sites. Ensure that items are delivered on time and in good condition.
Site Coordination:
- Communication: Work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and other team members to understand material needs and delivery schedules. Provide support to ensure that construction teams have access to required resources.
- Logistics: Manage the logistics of moving materials and equipment on and off-site. Ensure safe and efficient handling and transportation of items.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of inventory transactions, including receipts, issues, and returns. Update inventory management systems and generate reports as required.
- Reporting: Report any discrepancies, damage, or issues with materials or equipment to the supervisor. Provide regular updates on inventory status and supply levels.
Safety and Compliance:
- Safety Practices: Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols for handling and storing materials and equipment. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and ensure that safety procedures are followed.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies related to inventory management and site operations.
Process Improvement:
- Efficiency: Identify opportunities for improving inventory management processes and storage practices. Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
- Training: Provide training and guidance to other team members on proper material handling and inventory procedures as needed.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12.
- Additional certification in logistics or inventory management is a plus.
- 2 to 3 years of experience in inventory management, material handling, or a similar role, preferably in the construction industry.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with various teams.
- Basic knowledge of construction materials and equipment is a plus.
Work Environment:
- Hours: Standard business hours. Potential overtime may be required based on project demands and logistics needs.
